Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX 23) was held in Visakhapatnam from 05-10 July 2023

The seventh edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX 23) was held in Visakhapatnam from 05-10 July 2023.

  1. JIMEX was established in 2012 and this edition marks its 11th anniversary.
  2. The exercise involved the Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) units led by RAdm Nishiyama Takahiro and Indian Naval ships led by RAdm Gurcharan Singh.
  3. Indian Naval assets included INS Delhi ( India’s first indigenously built Guided Missile Destroyer), INS Kamorta (Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette), INS Shakti (fleet tanker), a submarine, maritime patrol aircraft P8I and Dornier, ship-borne helicopters, and fighter aircraft.
  4. JMSDF was represented by the guided missile destroyer JS Samidare and its integral helicopters.
  5. The exercise focused on advanced-level exercises in all three domains of maritime warfare – surface, subsurface, and air.
