BCAS commemorates its 37th Raising Day.

  • The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), the national regulator tasked with ensuring security in the civil aviation sector, celebrated its 37th Foundation Day on 27 April in New Delhi.
  • During the inaugural session of the two-day event, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Gen (Dr.) V.K. Singh (Retd) also presented awards to the personnel selected as best screeners in various categories. General (Dr.) V.K. President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service on the occasion of Republic Day 2022 and Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Republic Day 2023 were awarded by Singh to the officers of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security.
  • The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security was established in January 1978 as a cell in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The organization was proposed to be set up on the recommendation of the Pandey Committee constituted in the wake of the hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight on 10 September 1976.
  • The primary duty of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security is to provide complete security of civil aviation process operations against acts of unlawful interference. This bureau is responsible for laying down standards for the purpose of safety in respect of civil flights operating to/from India and ensuring their compliance through regular inspections and safety audits.
