Chennai Super Kings, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, won their fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) title by defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in an exciting final match on 29 May 2023 in Ahmedabad. Dhoni, who has been a prominent figure throughout the IPL season, ended on a high note by winning his fifth trophy.
Gujarat Titans batted first and scored 214 runs for the loss of four wickets, with B Sai Sudharsan making an impressive 96 runs in 47 balls.
Due to rain, the second innings of the final match was shortened to 15 overs, and Chennai Super Kings were given a revised target of 171 runs. In a thrilling finish, CSK successfully chased down the target on the last ball. Ravindra Jadeja hit a six and a four off Mohit Sharma’s bowling to secure the victory for CSK. As the CSK players celebrated on the field, Dhoni remained in the dugout with his eyes closed.
Despite the strong challenge posed by the Gujarat Titans and the rain interruptions that forced the final to be played on a reserve day, Dhoni’s team managed to equal the record of their main rivals, the Mumbai Indians, by winning their fifth IPL title.
