- The Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021 is being awarded to Geeta Press, Gorakhpur.
- Established in 1923, Gita Press is one of the largest publishers in the world, which has published over 41 crore books in 14 languages, including over 16 crore Shrimad Bhagavad Gita.
- The jury headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on 18th June unanimously decided to select Geeta Press, Gorakhpur as the recipient of the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021.
Gandhi Peace Prize
The Gandhi Peace Prize is an annual award instituted by the government in 1995 on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It is a tribute to the ideals propounded by Mahatma Gandhi. The award is open to all persons regardless of nationality, race, language, caste, creed or gender. The award carries Rs. 1 crore, a citation and a plaque.
