Opposition Parties formed alliance called “INDIA” to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election

Formation of Alliance: The 26 Opposition Parties against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have formed a new alliance called “Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance” or “INDIA” to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha election, on 18 July 2023 in Bangaluru .

Announcement by Congress President: The formation of the INDIA alliance was announced by Mallikarjuna Kharge, the National President of the Indian National Congress, after a meeting of opposition parties in Bangalore.

Objectives: The primary objective of the INDIA alliance is to take on the NDA in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election.

Next Meeting and Decision: The next meeting of the opposition parties will be held in Mumbai. During this meeting, a decision will be taken to form an 11 Member Coordination Committee, which will be responsible for overseeing the Lok Sabha election campaign.

Convenor Selection: Among the 11 Committee members, a Convenor will be elected to lead the alliance’s efforts.

Campaign Strategy and Common Minimum Programme: A Secretariat will be established in Delhi to plan the alliance’s campaign strategy and formulate a Common Minimum Programme.

Prominent Leaders Present: The meeting in Bangalore was attended by prominent opposition leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Nitish Kumar, Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, and Lalu Prasad, among others.
