- Prime Minister Narendra Modi is inaugurating 91 FM transmitters to improve radio connectivity in India.
- The initiative aims to enhance FM coverage in aspirational districts and border areas.
- With this extension of FM service of All India Radio, an additional two crore people, who did not have access to this medium, will now be covered. As a result, the coverage will be expanded in an area of about 35,000 sq km.
- These transmitters have been installed in 84 districts of 18 states and two union territories.
- States and UTs covered include Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Ladakh.
- The Prime Minister recognizes the importance of radio in reaching out to the masses and started Mann ki Baat program to harness the unique strength of the medium.
